Steal your money? There’s an app for that!

Unlike the fascist world of iOS apps, Google’s Play Store is anarchy, with little monitoring of what’s made available.

Until yesterday a fake app called “SCB Internet Banking” was available for Android users, and you’d have to look closely to see it was not the real deal.

Yesterday, bank officials tweeted a warning about the bogus app and it was removed from the store.

Indeed one can find many fraudulent banking apps using official names and logos, so it’s best to verify one is developed by the bank.

Mobile users are advised to check who the application developers or check the bank’s website for official links before downloading.

For example, SCB apps list the developer in the Play Store as “Siam Commercial Bank PCL.”
