COVID’s a bummer, but spreading a virus during a pandemic worth it for a hella lit NYE, amirite?
As Thailand braces for lockdown and health officials forecast doom amid a surge of cases following the New Year’s holidays, people are uploading their positive test results juxtaposed with scenes of their mad party.
Tabea.wnt had a great time on Koh Phangan, where it seems everyone who went to get their party on got infected at multiple super spreader events.
“It was a good night though,” she wrote along with a video of her positive test results and packed island party scenes.
After she got hit with some feedback, she returned to add a disclaimer. “Everyone who goes to such parties is aware of the risk! It’s my own fault!!” she added in a comment. “Stay safe ppl.”

Aware they may be, but what about all the people they encountered afterward? Koh Phangan reported 58 of the 159 cases in its home province of Surat Thani today. More than likely, many of those infected revelers boarded boats and planes, spreading their good vibes on the way home.
Toey.kmw wrote that she also became infected on the famous party island. She got her viral souvenir at what looks like full moon-famous Haad Rin’s Drop In Bar.
Not to be buzzkills, but does attending a superspreader event and risking other lives really qualify as “totes worth it?”
We hear all the confident Omicron optimism out there shrugging it off as “just the flu.” We hope that works out better than it did in early 2020.
We want it to be over too, so we can all party without killing someone’s grandma.
