A variety of poisonous snake new to Thailand, called the The Brown Spotted Pit Viper, was discovered living in the northern province of Nan.
The snake’s scientific moniker s “protobothrops mucrosquamatus” and the viper is indigenous to China and Taiwan, reported Thai PBS.
The snake was discovered living in Nan when a man recently went into the forest to forage for food and was bit by one of these snakes. He beat the snake to death and brought it’s remains to Nan Hospital to determine what kind of snake had bitten him.
Despite the snake being venomous, the man was not suffering from anything other than a skin abrasion. Staff believe that the snake has not yet released its venom into the man. The man was discharged but, since staff did not recognize the variety of snake, they sent it on to the Poison Center at Bangkok’s Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok for more study.
They discovered that it was a Brown Spotted Pit Viper and have warned the public to be careful.
