Toyota One Make Race: A smashing good time

The Toyota One Make race series kicks off Saturday May 19 at Rajamangala National Stadium. The One Make Series is designed to allow motorsports to be more accessible to those who normally wouldn’t be able to get involved in the sport. Drivers are able to purchase spec’d Toyota models at an affordable price and compete in a Toyota-sanctioned events that take place at various venues throughout the country. The final round sees the drivers going to Sepang Circuit, Kuala Lumpur to compete for the championship.

Spectators will be able to witness different classes of Toyota makes ranging from the 1.5 liter Vios to the all-out 2.0 liter GT-spec Altis, there will also be special demonstrations throughout the day such as performance driving and a drift show.

The unique track is designed from the internal roads of the National Stadium complex; It clearly wasn’t intended to be a race course, which means serious straights and crash prone corners. The race gets exciting because these drivers aren’t necessarily professionals, they’re simply enthusiasts who have enough cash to kick around to get into racing. Crashes occur like clockwork.

There are also throngs of Toyota-sponsored pretties strutting around in addition to a showcase of Toyota’s past and present models or the spec’d versions of road-going production cars.

To get to the race fans can take a taxi to Rajamangala National Stadium in Ramkhamhaeng or use the Hua Mark or Ramkhamhaeng Airport Link stops. Race days are May 19 and 20.
