Thailand’s national football squad lost a heartbreaker to Australia on Nov. 15 in front of a full house at Supachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok.
Australia’s Brett Holman put in a 77th-minute header to seal the win for the Socceroos to the despair of the Thai Elephants and thousands of fans.
Thailand midfielder Datsakorn Thonglao played a fantastic through ball to a wide open Suree Sukka in the 35th minute but the striker fired over the bar from close range. The Elephants had a chance to equalize late in the game but substitute Sarawut Masuk’s header again flew over the goal from up close.
Australia coach Holger Osieck had nothing but good things to say about the Thai team. “I think it was a very hard victory against a Thai team that really played very well,” Osieck said. “They were so well organized and they were well prepared to play our team.”
Thailand is now eliminated from qualifying for the World Cup 2014.
