Thai Premier League
Saturday March 31
Bangkok Utd 2-3 BEC Tero
Muangthong Utd 3-0 Songkhla Utd
TOT 1-0 Osotspa Saraburi
Muangthong made it four wins out of four with a 3-0 win over Songkhla Utd. The TPL champs had to be patient before Roland Linz netted his first goal for the club shortly after the interval. Dagno Siaka headed a second before Teerasil finished off a lively move to see Muangthong run out 3-0 winners.
BEC Tero won an end-to-end game at the Thai Japanese Stadium beating Bangkok United 3-2. The Fire Dragons took the lead three times with Cleiton Silva, Rangsan and Arzu scoring the goals to move BEC Tero into second place.
Closely behind the top 2 come TOT who beat Osotspa 1-0. Takahiro Kawamura pounced on a goalkeeper spill 15 minutes from time to score the only goal of the game
Sunday, March 31
Bangkok Glass 0-1 Police Utd
Chainat 0-0 Chiang Rai Utd
Pattaya Utd 1-2 Army Utd
Ratchaburi 1-1 Chonburi
Suphanburi 1-0 Samut Songkhram
An injury time Thiago Cunha penalty cancelled out Sila’s first half strike to salvage a point for Chonburi. The penalty award was originally given as a free kick just outside the box, but after consulting his assistant the referee changed his mind and awarded a penalty kick. The replays show clearly that Cunha was at least one meter inside the box when he was fouled. However a section of louts wearing Ratchaburi shirts decided to dish out their own justice after the match attacking Chonburi fans and their vehicles.
A Wuttichai goal was enough to win the points for Suphanburi against Samut Songkhram while Mbuta and Tatree were on target for Army at Pattaya as the Bangkok side picked up their second win of the week. The wins move Suphanburi up to the giddy heights of third while Army climb into the top half.
Chiang Rai United earned a decent point at Chainat but whether that was adequate enough to satisfy the “Teco Out” brigade remains to be seen.
Police United took the bragging rights as they beat Bangkok Glass 1-0 in the Pathum Thani derby. The only goal of the match came as half time beckoned with Tanat heading home a corner.
Division 1
Saturday, March 30
Air Force 0-0 Nakhon Ratchasima
BBCU 2-1 Khon Kaen
Nakhon Pathom Utd 1-0 Bangkok FC
Rayong Utd 1-2 Sing Tarua
Sriracha 3-1 Navy
Trat 1-3 Krabi
Leandro Luz’s cult status in Khlong Toei took another boost as the big man notched a brace to help Sing Tarua come from behind to beat Rayong Utd 2-1. Termchai was dismissed late on for Tarua but they held out for their fourth successive away win and their third 2-1 win on the bounce.
A crowd of only 199 watched BBCU move second with a 2-1 victory over Khon Kaen. Pichit was on target again scoring the winning goal 20 minutes from time.
The Air Force v Korat match saw the floodlights go out twice but neither side could make the breakthrough as the both settled for a point.
Bangkok FC tasted their first defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss at Nakhon Pathom. Anek’s first half goal was rather fortunate although I’m sure he’ll claim that he meant to chip Beyeme in the Bulligan’s goal.
The last two games saw Krabi and Sriracha score impressive 3-1 wins. Two consecutive wins have moved Krabi into third place while Sriracha have climbed out of the relegation berths into mid-table.
Sunday, March 31
Ayutthaya 0-0 PTT Rayong
Saraburi 1-1 Rayong FC
TTM 0-1 Phuket
TTM slumped to the bottom of the table after their 1-0 loss to Phuket. A Kritsada free kick from the right touchline ten minutes from time won the points for the Islanders although it has to be said that TTM keeper Shota Wada made a meal of trying to deal with it.
Newly promoted Ayutthaya and Rayong FC grabbed a point each but it wasn’t enough to move either out of the relegation zone. There were plenty of chances in the Ayutthaya v PTT Rayong goalless draw while Warut struck midway through the second period to equalize for Rayong after Bernard Henri had headed the Warlords in front in the 16th minute
Coaches Pack Your Parachutes
As the Thai season gets into its stride the same annual stories surface. SCG Muangthong United are at the top, the FAT are facing mounting criticism and coaches are getting ready for the deadly “vote of confidence.” Chiang Rai United’s coach Teco is the most embattled, but Pattaya United and Chonburi’s coaches are facing mounting criticism.
Bangkok Glass unveil their new stand
Pathum Thani’s Bangkok Glass continue to develop their stadium at breakneck speed even whilst their season flounders with their latest home defeat against fellow Bangkok team Police United. Yesterday they unveiled their latest impressive project. Now to get enough fans to fill it…
