American boxing hero Sugar Ray Leonard will travel through the Bangkok and Pattaya areas on a whistle stop charity appearance tour early next month.
Leonard, the “Boxer of the Decade” in the ’80s, will kick off his Thailand jaunt with a VIP cocktail and gala smash at the Plaza Athenee’s Glazz Bar on Friday, April 5.
According to organizers Legacy of Legends, proceeds will go to Mechai Viravaidya Foundation, a charity that supports sustainable development.
Leonard won world titles in five weight classes was the first boxer to earn over USD100 million in prizes. Check out his highlights below.

Mechai Viravaidya, a.k.a. ‘Mr. Condom’ is the role model of sustainable development in Thailand. He established the Mechai Viravaidya Foundation and opened the Mechai Pattana School in Northeastern Thailand in 2009. The foundation highlights Mechai’s community-based development works, including the Community Based Integrated Rural Development Center under The Population and Community Development Association and Meechai Pattana School in Buriram. Highlight s of the evening will be a special Power Talk by Sugar Ray Leonard, Motivation Speech by Mr. Mechai Veravidhaya, top notch music and entertaining performances by the 10-piece funky 70s – 80s “Motown” style music by The Universal Band of Khun Neung Jakkawal, The best Tina Turner and The Three Degrees, impersonators John Travolta – Grease Dancers, as well as charity auction of world celebrity items.
The charity golf tournaments will feature shot gun golf in the afternoon, golf outing in unison with the opportunity to spend the afternoon playing golf and meeting with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, social dinner party – International Buffet with free flow wine and beer, as well as grand trophies for winner that include a car and a condominium in Pattaya.
