Perhaps shaken up by the last-minute arrival of its star player, Thailand’s Muang Thong United fell to China’s Guangzhou Evergrande last night by the decisive margin of 4-0.
Thailand had hoped that a victory against Guangzhou would grant it a shot at progressing beyond its Group F pool, but after this defeat, the Thai Premier League champions will be forced to hang on by the skin of their teeth.
According to the Bangkok Post, of the four teams in Group F (Guangzhou, Jeonbuk, Urawa and Muang Thong), Muang Thong currently ranks fourth.
