A 44-year-old son kowtowed at mother’s feet as an apology for his wrongdoing, as the police arrived to arrest him on drug charges at their home in Chonburi yesterday.

Thawatchai Sakhon was charged with drug abuse and possession of two yaba tablets, after police received a tip that he sold yaba to teenagers in the area and let them use drugs at his home.

It wasn’t clear why the man wasn’t charged for selling drugs.

Thawatchai confessed to the crime, saying that he had to sell yaba to afford the care for his ailing parents aged 80 and 77 — both of whom are bedridden and need their son to help them perform day-to-day activities.

Thawatchai’s mother reportedly burst into tears when her son kowtowed to her.

Police will contact their relatives to take the two elderly into their care as Thawatchai will be prosecuted, Sanook reported.
