Now we’ve seen some interesting historical revisionism, but remember that time the kingdom of Siam fought off hordes of scary zombies?
“Rattanakosin Zombies,” a mock-trailer for a faithful recounting of that undead crisis, was released Monday by third-year university students and suddenly became quite a hit on YouTube.
The trailer was filmed for a class project by students at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang who are showcasing their work at “See all Scene,” the university’s cinematic exhibition and awards event running through Friday.
The plot twists Western zombies into a period rendering of Thailand, where the zombie plague is mistaken for an outbreak of cholera. The students deserve credit for solid editing – this is even better than most Thai movies showing in theathers.
To translate roughly, the trailer’s narrators talk about how cholera has killed half of Siam, which faces a lack of medicine to treat the disease. Thomas, a farang doctor (who we gotta say delivers the worst acting), is brought in to find a cure for this dark age of Siam that just may have to be written into school history texts.

More skillful production work can be seen in another student trailer for “Ticket Night Trip,” which tells the story of a man haunted by his abusive, troubled childhood while riding a train back to his hometown for his mother’s funeral.
