The News Broadcasting Council of Thailand apologized to the family of the deceased television star Thridsadee “Por” Sahawong for disrespectful media coverage of his death.
The apology came after dozens of reporters who flocked to take photos of the actor’s lifeless body when hospital staff moved his corpse from the hospital into a van.
Thai society condemned the media for behaving inappropriately and violating Por’s family’s privacy.
“The News Broadcasting Council of Thailand would like to apologize to the Sahawong family, fans, and citizens who read the news, and it will gladly accept criticism and take suggestions from citizens into consideration. This will be an important lesson for us to improve and develop the standards of the media,” the statement said in Thai.
A discussion to decide new guidelines for Thai press will soon be held among individual representatives of the media.
