Serial snoozer turned acting PM naps through Krabi meeting

Hope that serving as the nation’s top executive would keep the famously drowsy Prawit Wongsuwan awake were crushed today when he went for a kip in the middle of a meeting.

Prawit dozed off in his big man chair while presiding over a joint meeting of various water and land use agencies in Krabi province to discuss water management issues, which, to be fair, sounds like the administrative equivalent of a full gram of ketamine.

“Uncle Pom did the right thing,” a Suthaporn Suriyakarn wrote in reply to an image posted by a local news agency. “He drank his milk and is sleeping but is probably at the wrong place.”

It didn’t help that the image in circulation looks like he is propped up in a coffin.

“Rest in peace,” Pas Tel wrote.

Prawit has always drawn equal parts scorn and amusement from the public, and his legendary sleepiness has been a running joke. Since coming to power by ousting the civilian government with former junta bro-turned-PM Prayuth Chan-ocha, Prawit has been frequently caught napping on the job.

Of course there is the wild speculation that he is in poor health – which he denies – so we hope he was just knackered and not ill.

Since he took over following Prayuth’s suspension, Prawit just this past Friday was wowing the nation by forcing his security detail to hustle under the hot sun to keep up with his golf buggy.

The 77-year-old former army commander is expected to oversee similar projects in Tak and Narathiwat provinces in the coming weeks.

And here are several minutes of a super-sleepy Prawit in his deputy PM days courtesy of Matichon. He’s so pooped out that he eventually just gets up and toddles off.
