Senior cracks head on BTS Skytrain, family faults operator

A 63-year-old man fell over and cracked his head on a BTS train when it lurched forward while departing Surasak BTS station.

A Pantip user recounted shocking accident he witnessed Wednesday when the man was knocked to the floor because, he said, the train departed the station too quickly.

“What happened was this man was about to sit down, and then the train departed causing him to fall and crack his head,” user Iron-Spider wrote, “He bled a lot. In the photo, the security guard at Chong Nonsi station was about to take him to the first aid room.”

The injured man, whose name was not released, was admitted to Bangkok Christian Hospital and received six stitches, according to another user, Nicholas K, who claimed to be his son.

“My father says he had to take BTS that day because he had a meeting, and train really got off to a rough start,” his son wrote. “The two representatives from the BTS say my father fell over on his own.”

Although the incident happened five days ago, the family is disappointed that operator Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co. Ltd. has not taken responsibility for the incident.

“We’re not worried about the hospital bills because we have insurance, but until today, no one from the BTS contacted us to show responsibility,” he wrote this afternoon.
