There was already strong online criticism of a hot-headed man, seen in viral dashcam footage, who pointed a gun at the driver behind him while inside the Chaengwattana Government Complex last week. That criticism has gone to a whole new level after it was reveal that the man branding the gun was none other than the deputy secretary of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Piset Nakhapan.

NACC Secretary Worawit Sukbon confirmed Piset’s identity yesterday afternoon, adding that he has launched an investigation regarding the incident.

Piset is absent from work today and cannot be reached, Worawit said.

When a popular Facebook page “Here on Board” posted the video Monday night, the post quicly went viral, attracting scourns from countless netizens.

In the video, captured last Wednesday at 3:30pm, shows Piset’s black Honda can be seen cutting in front of the dashcam owner’s car. Shortly after, Piset stops at a crossroads and gets out of the car before pointing his handgun straight at the camera and driver.

A middle-aged woman, identified by Khaosod as Piset’s wife, then gets out of the car and, reportedly, also chataises the driver about “following them,” the caption explained.

“It’s a government complex!” the video’s poster exclaims in the caption.

For those who make an occasional visit to Changwatthana to deal with their work permit (or Thai passport), you’ll know that getting anywhere inside the complex is a nightmare, and you can literally never find a parking spot. Then again, expressing your anger by pulling out a gun is a bit extreme, no?

As the investigation at NACC continues, Piset has reportedly turned himself in and made a statement at the Thung Song Hong police station, according to Thai PBS.

He faces charges of firearm possession, carrying firearms in public, and causing panic.
