Selfie-snapping teen seriously injured after fall from shopping mall rooftop

A 17-year-old Chonburi teenager was seriously injured after he fell from the rooftop of a shopping mall last night after he snuck up there with three friends to take selfies.

Surawit Aum-aumpan reportedly climbed up to the roof of the six-storey-high Pacific Park Sriracha hoping to get shots of him and his friends, but as he stepped on the thin tiling it gave way and he fell 15 meters onto the fourth floor.

“He was trying to get a photo of us. So he stepped onto the roof because he thought he could,” one of his friends, identified only as “Kwang” said. “We saw the forbidden sign, but we thought it wouldn’t be dangerous.”

Kwang admitted the group had snuck up to the rooftop through the fire escape despite noticing the no entry sign because they had heard that the view up there was beautiful.

They were taking selfies with their phones before Surawit stepped onto the roof to get a photo of the three others and fell.

Rescue volunteers believe the thin tiles could not handle his weight. Surawit was seriously injured and was seen bleeding from his nose and mouth. He was rushed to hospital where he is being treated, Manager and Nation TV reported.
