Security measures will be stepped up during Loy Krathong and New Year festivals this year.
PM Prayuth Chan-ocha ordered the measure as well as campaigns encouraging people to “behave” during the upcoming festivities, reported the Nation.
“The objective is to make Thailand a nice place to live and travel with high security and safety and the capability of handling any disasters immediately and efficiently,” said government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd.
Officials will also crack down on booze sales, increase safety measures at piers and river banks where people float krathongs, and clamp down on people floating lanterns near airports.
