Security raised for Songkran

Military commanders have been ordered to step up security across the board for the Songkran Festival next month.

Ministry of Defense spokesman Col. Khongchip Tantrawanit said military personnel would facilitate travelers, help prevent road accidents and deter criminal activity.

More security cameras will be installed to “make the public feel safe,” according to state media, while everyone is encouraged to alert the authorities of suspicious activities.

Songkran is an especially dangerous times on Thailand’s already risky roads. The festival runs from April 13 to 15 but expect most everyone to piss off and do fuck all through April 29.
