Second earthquake rocks Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai was rocked by another earthquake on Monday. The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) confirmed that a 5-magnitude quake rattled Mae Lao district at 6:05pm on Monday.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about eight kilometers underground. This is the second quake to hit the area this month after a 6.0-magnitude quake, at a depth of just 7.4 kilometres (4.5 miles), struck last week.

No official announcement was made by the NDWC because the quake didn’t affect locals.

Due to the existence of several fault lines in the North there is a high risk that more earthquakes will strike the area, reports the Bangkok Post.
