Jordan Coe, 19, died in the Isaan province of Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday, where he was training for an upcoming Muay Thai fight.

The Scottish boxer most likely died of heatstroke and extreme dehydration that was blamed on him training in a sweat suit to try to lose weight for a match later that day. A full autopsy will be carried out to confirm that suspicion.

In order to fight in a certain weight class, the professional Muay Thai fighter needed to shed three kilograms in order to weigh in at 61 kilograms, reported The Mirror.

Police reported that the young man left his hotel room to train at 11:30am and never returned. He was supposed to fight Cambodian opponent Khon Bola at a pop up boxing event in Muang district.

The man was known in the world of Muay thai as “Jordan Lamnamnoon Muay Thai.” He had resided in Thailand for nearly three years, living in Ubon Ratchathani and training at Lamnamnoon Sor Sumalee Gym.

According to the Bangkok Post, the man had fought professionally more than 70 times and gained notoriety for dancing in the Thai northeastern style and for playing the kaen (a Thai mouth organ) before matches, as well as for his fighting skill.

One of his friends in Scotland started a JustGiving campaign that asked for GBP5,000 for funeral expenses and to move his body back home. Overnight, it received GBP16,000 from 718 supporters and contained many condolences for Coe’s family and friends.

On his Facebook page, friends couldn’t believe the news. Keith Kowal said, “You were destined for the top without a shadow of a doubt. Done yourself proud. Miss you wee man.”
