Scorned man arrested for fatal shooting of ex-girlfriend in 7-Eleven, he also blackmailed her

A man has been arrested in connection with the grisly fatal shooting of a woman in a busy 7-Eleven on Rama II Road, in Bang Khun Thian district, last month.

Pichai Tangchit, 35, was arrested by police on Monday at a relative’s house in Samut Sakhon, where he had been hiding out since the crime. The former swim coach was identified as the shooter seen in the CCTV footage killing Chalinthorn Wattanasap, 34, on August 10.

At the house, a .38 calibre revolver, believed to be the murder weapon, and a motorcycle used to escape Bangkok were taken as evidence by police, reported Thai PBS.

Pichai told police he had a relationship with Chalinthorn two years ago and had also tried to blackmail her with an intimate video clip. He said that he had demanded THB1.5 million to keep the video private.

Chalinthorn had, in return, filed an extortion claim against him at the U-thong Police Station in Suphan Buri.

Pol Lt. Gen. Sanit Mahathavorn, commissioner at the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that officers would take action against the relatives in Samut Sakhon for harboring a criminal.
