School closure policy receives online flak

Education Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana has received a deluge of online criticism since announcing that the government will close down small schools and merge them with bigger ones.

According to The Nation, many Facebook users have started to share their opposition regarding the announcement. Jirayu Ekkul has already launched a petition at www.change.org/smallschool to counter the school closures. The petition has received more than 2,000 signatures.

The Kru Tah Fanpage speculated that the policy would do permanent damage to the country. It also posted a picture of school students with the text, “Please don’t close my school.”

The discussion wasn’t isolated to Facebook either, as comments from Twitter started to arise as well.
