A blaze erupted in the engine room on a Koh Chang ferry last night but, thankfully, no one was injured.
The ferry was docked at the pier in Trat when the fire started at 10:30pm. There were workers onboard fixing an unrelated issue with the boat’s parking platform, reported The Nation.
Four fire vehicles arrived on the scene quickly and got the blaze under control in about an hour.
The workers reported a loud noise and a fast smoke eruption from the engine room on the late-night ferry. It was the last to leave Koh Chang that evening and arrived at Ao Thammachart pier at 7:30pm.
The ferry is being checked and repaired but it should not affect the ferry schedule for the upcoming holiday weekend as there are several ferries in rotation on the Trat-Koh Chang route.
