The famous Wat Mahathat Buddha face bodhi tree, which travelers from around the world visit, offer prayers to, and take photos with, is thankfully still intact today after a close call with a large falling tree branch yesterday.

The religious landmark is easily one of the best-known sights in the old capital of Ayutthaya. The tree is thought to be several hundred years old. However, yesterday’s intense rainstorm caused a large limb of the tree to crash down just centimeters from the Buddha image.

The branch was almost 4 meters long and officials rushed to the scene to make sure the precious relic was intact.

The mess has since been cleared and the Buddha image cleaned and declared undamaged.
