The Royal Thai Police are seeking help from the International Police Organization, better known as Interpol, to locate former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
Deputy national police chief, Pol. Gen. Srivara Ransibrahmanakul on Monday called for a meeting with agencies involved in the operation to locate Yingluck, for whom the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders has issued an arrest warrant, reported Thai News Bureau.
Pol. Gen. Srivara said that all police units across the country have been instructed to set up special teams to help look for the former PM and report back on Sept. 1.
He added that the Immigration Bureau has been assigned to search all border checkpoints to find out which of them was used as a point of departure by Yingluck, while the Royal Thai Police’s foreign division has started working with Interpol in 190 countries to find the former leader.
The deputy national police chief also declined to comment on reports that Yingluck checked into a hotel in Bangkok on Aug. 23 before traveling to Trat Province to enter Cambodia.
