Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha’s list of special talents includes TV show hosting and song composing. The most recent addition to the unusual leader’s creative talents is poetry. Yesterday, the PM publicly read a nine-stanza poem he wrote to the cabinet during a formal meeting.
The klon, or poem, was written in his personal time and titled “Thailand 4.0” after the governmental scheme pushing Thailand toward becoming a “high-income nation.”
Prayuth admits that his poem is “not perfect,” but will provide a better understanding of the government’s performance, reported The Nation.
In spite of its title, the poem barely touches on technology-related issues. The verses instead begin by asking for loyalty towards the country’s three traditional pillars, being the monarchy, the nation, and religion. The following verses encourage Thais to work towards a better agricultural industry, better economy, as well as education and social security.
Further into the poem, Prayuth mentions “Pracha Rat,” another one of his proposals that touches on government cooperation and unity among the private sectors.
“I tried every channel, but people still don’t understand,” he said.
Prayuth, after using absolute power under Article 44 to enact over 150 orders, also emphasizes that “the most important thing today is law.”
A poll conducted earlier this month, however, found that most citizens said they needed Prayuth’s government to listen more to political criticism. That is something that they have, until now, staunchly refused to do.
