Footage of a road rage incident in Chiang Mai, which has gained nearly 2.5 million views, shows the insane moment where a threatening, middle-aged Thai man walks out of his car with a golf club to swing at his road rage target.

Santiphap Viriyothai, a 31-year-old lecturer at Payap University, said he was driving on Donchan-Sankampaeng Road yesterday when a silver Toyota Fortuner cut in front of him and attempted to enter the main road through the exit slip road.

“I’m posting this video to remind myself and other people to be careful when driving. Hope everybody is safe. God protects us all,” Santiphap wrote.

The dashcam video shows that Santiphap only honked at the Fortuner, but that was enough to send the driver behind him into a rage.

The man is seen walking out of the Fortuner with a golf club. Although his attack was not captured in the frame, the sound suggested he swung at Santiphap’s side window twice.

“I have a kid in the car! Let’s be reasonable!” Santiphap yelled, just when his son started crying.

“I’ll call the cops,” he continued.

“Fine!” the Fortuner driver said, and he smashed the window again, ignoring the crying kid.

Then Santiphap’s wife is heard desperately saying, “Uncle, I’m so sorry!”

“Please go,” Santiphap said.

For a brief moment, everything stopped and nothing is heard except the crying child. After that, Santiphap called the police.

This morning, Pol. Capt. Pongsak Tiwanna, of Mae Ping police, identified the Fortuner driver as 60-year-old Pornprom Tonawanik from Chiang Mai, Daily News reported.

Police said Santiphap received arm and eye injuries in the attack, and his side window near the driver’s seat was smashed.

The police recorded the case, and Pornprom is scheduled to come to the police station later today for questioning.

The investigation is ongoing.
