A wealthy family in southern Thailand handed out more than THB2 million cash (US$63,000) yesterday to thousands of locals who lined up to get their share.

Sunanta Leelertpan, CEO of Twin Lotus, a well-known company that produces herbal cosmetics, led her family in the money giveaway in Pak Phanang district, Nakhon Sri Thammarat province. Equipped with stacks of THB100 bills, the family vowed to give children, the disabled, and the elderly who live in the district THB300 (US$9.5) each, along with food and drinking water, One 31 reported.

While that doesn’t sound like a lot, note that Thailand’s daily minimum wage is also THB300, which explains why about 7,000 people, mostly seniors, showed up to receive free goods.

The Leelertpan family said they do this every year to give back to society and thank the community they grew up in.
