Reserved ‘lucky’ mobile phone numbers to be auctioned off, starting at THB6 million

Certain seven digit phone numbers that are considered lucky are auctioned off and can go for unheard of amounts of money. Some of these numbers have been on reserve and, now, the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) says they will start to sell the mobile numbers.

Some of the most valued numbers, featuring repeating or sequential digits, will be auctioned off starting at THB6 million each, reported Thai PBS

The cost is as high as many high-end cars, condos and luxury homes.

NBTC secretary-general Thakorn Tanthasit said there are 16 mobile numbers to be auctioned on Sunday, Nov. 27 at NBTC conference hall.

The proceeds from the open bidding will be used to fund state projects and Thakorn projects that the auction will raise at least THB124 million. He also said that it is the first mobile number auction in Thailand.
