Repair work starts at Erawan Shrine

More than a week after the bombing at Erawan Shrine that left 20 dead and injured 120, traditional arts craftsmen have moved in to repair the statue of Lord Brahma.

A team of craftsmen from the Fine Arts Department yesterday started work to repair the damage to the statue’s chins, necklace and right index finger.

Plaster cement will be used to fix the damaged parts before gilding them with gold leaf which weighs 2,500 grams, reported Thai PBS.

The repairs will take nine days and cost about 70,000 baht.

The statue will be covered as craftsmen carry out the repairs, but members of the public are still allowed to worship at the shrine.

Once the repairs are finished, a spiritual rite will be held on Sept 4.
