Police have received results from forensic DNA testing of a skeleton exhumed from a private property in Phetchaburi province and confirmed that the body is that of Jariya “Nam” Srisak, a 16-year-old maid allegedly beaten to death by her boss, wannabe former beauty queen Krisana Suwanphithak, 45, five years ago.

The test results were revealed Friday by Pol. Lt. Gen. Dr. Withoon Nitiwarangkura, chief medical officer for the police’s Institute of Forensic Science (IFS), reported Bangkok Post.

The body was found on the property of Krisana’s mother. The suspect, who confessed to beating the victim with a can of air freshener causing injuries that led to her death the following day, later recanted her confession and is out on bail after being arrested last week. Police continue to investigate and interview witnesses in the case.

Jariya’s mother, Janthira Srisak, 48, said “I’m glad today after having waited for five years. I believed it was my daughter since the day I saw the skeleton. It’s a relief to know the DNA result was positive.”

She plans to bring the body back to the family home in Phetchaburi for a Buddhist funeral.

Janthira has also had telephone threats made against her, since she was the person that brought official attention to the cold case after she received anonymous information about where her daughter’s body was buried.

The threats were made by a man but came after Krisana was released on bail. Police are investigating the threats, and if it is found that the suspect is behind them, she will be taken back into custody for breaching the conditions of her bail.
