Really? Common BTS, MRT, Airport Link transport card to finally launch next year

The all-in-one public transport card that we have been dreaming about is scheduled to launch in June of next year after it was delayed in August, according to the Transport and Traffic Policy Plan Office (OTP)

The dream of slimming down your wallet might come true next year as legislation to support the operation of common ticketing systems is being drafted to support the “mangmoom card” or “spider card” — a single card designed to be used on all public transportation.

However, OTP Director Chaiwat Thongkamkoon said that the card will only work with the BTS, MRT, MRT Purple Line and the Airport Link when it’s launched in June next year, Daily News reported.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport revealed the first look of the mangmoom card in June. Just like spiders that spin webs to reach any destinations, this mangmoom card was meant to be used to travel anywhere.

Besides the electric trains, in the beginning of the projects, the mangmoom card was also intended to be used for other public transportation including buses, boats, vans and taxis.

It was also announced that the spider card would be used as payment at shops and for services.
