Rayong fishermen refuse to accept compensation offer from PTTGC

One thousand Rayong fishermen denied an offer of THB1,000 in daily compensation for lost income following PTTGC’s oil spill because. The fishermen said the figure should reflect, “real average daily income.” 

Chulalongkorn University provided a form for fishermen to specify the number of squid, shrimp, fish and clams they would catch daily. Once real average daily income is calculated they will submit compensation requests to PTTGC and other governing bodies.

It was also reported that although the cause of the leak is still unknown, but the government has ruled out natural cases. The investigation is ongoing and will involve the participation of 14 agencies, the Nation reported.
