A rare, giant fish identified as Mola ramsayi or southern sunfish was found dead in a fishing net in Nakhon Si Thammarat on Sunday.
Snapshots of the approximately 300-kilogram-heavy fish were posted on Siamensis, an environmental advocacy group which helped locals in the Khanom district contact the government to collect the fish.
The southern sunfish has a flat, round body with a small mouth and teeth fused into a parrot-like beak, according to the Australian Museum. The skin is leathery and has rough denticles.
The fish will be stuffed and displayed at the National Museum of Science, Post Today reported.
