Mark “Phromphol” Zuckerberg?

Everyone knows that Wikipedia’s crowd-sourced knowledge can be somewhat unreliable. This has proven especially true on the Thai Wikipedia profile page of Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Someone has replaced the Thai spelling for “Mark” (มาร์ก) with the name “Phromphol” (พร้อมพล).

Is Phromphol a super cool Thai name? No.

Is Phromphol just a random Thai name? Well, Phrom means “ready” and Phol means “forces.” Combine them together and you get Phromphol, which means troops or forces that are ready to fight in a war. The name “Mark” actually means “warlike” and is derived from Mars, the ancient Roman god of war. So the author of this little nugget of crowd-sourced info was probably going for that.

One thing’s for sure, in this great metropolis that holds more Facebook users than any other city in the world, people definitely ain’t calling him “Phromphol Zuckerberg.”

And yes, it’s a slow news day. I’m going to have a beer.
