Move over WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Line, and Viber.
There’s a new mobile phone messaging app that’s taken Bangkok by storm and it’s called SimSimi.
In what is perhaps a new height of vapid and useless technology hell, users can now exchange text messages with a robot on the app.
Actually, it’s pretty hilarious!
SimSimi from time to time asks users to submit clever responses to questions and thus builds up a database of funny answers.
When we asked it “What are you wearing?” it wrote back: “Well at the moment I’m streaking… So nothing.”
When we asked, “Want some coffee?” it said “1 white chocolate mocha please.”
You may have already seen users texting with the cute yellow robot avatar and silently giggling on the BTS or MRT. This is for good reason.
SimSimi, which was developed in South Korea, is fully functional in many languages and gives just as snarky responses in Thai.
Some powerful people have not taken too kindly to the app due to foul language, though… Developing story!
