Our regular readers might have started feeling that Coconuts Bangkok was about due for another bizarre snake incident to report on — and they’d be right.
A python slithered into a Thai man’s car in Pathum Thani Province yesterday, and apparently liked its new digs so much that it refused to leave until rescuers were forced to yank the animal out.
Local rescuers received a call yesterday afternoon from 34-year-old Anuwat Wajinda, who reported that a snake had snuck into his wife’s white Isuzu MU-X, at their apartment parking lot in Khlong Luang District in central Thailand.
However, after four hours of frantic searching — and even dismantling the entire vehicle cabin — rescuers could not find the snake, despite seeing the slither marks it had left all over the car. So, reported Manager, they gave up the search and left the scene.
Around 10pm that night, though, rescuers received another call from Anuwat, who said that he had located the python curled up in the back of the car console, sleeping. And with that, they headed back to the scene to capture it.
Meanwhile, Anuwat’s 38-year-old wife (and owner of the car) had brought incense to stick at the foot of the car, allegedly in order to help pray for the python’s removal — and also for good fortune, of course. It makes sense to those who understand that many Thai people believe snakes are spiritual animals, and that being visited by one will bring good fortune upon the people who encounter one.
As for the extraction of this particular python, it reportedly took rescuers about half an hour to catch the snake — even though it was only 1.2 meters long, reported Sanook. Local media reports say that the python was so reluctant to make a graceful exit that officials had to spray bug repellant inside the car to help chase it out.
In a series of photos taken during this second attempt, rescuers can be seen resorting to yanking the snake out of its slot.
Since then, the python has reportedly been returned to its natural habitat.
Anuwat told reporters that he plans to buy a lottery ticket with the license plate of his car, as he feels they’ve since become “lucky numbers” following this visit from a snake. He would use the potential winnings to fix the car, he added.
