Put down your phone; save a life

Setting down your smartphone can do more than rest your eyes and provide stunning hi-def immersion in a 3D reality. It can also raise money to help children without clean water to drink.

UNICEF’s Tap Project has added a twist for the digital generation in its seven-year campaign to provide clean water to children worldwide: just set your phone down to help.

For every 10 minutes your phone sits on a flat surface at uniceftapproject.org, sponsors will donate the money to provide one child a day’s worth of drinking water.

There are 768 million people worldwide who don’t have access to clean drinking water.

This challenge may be difficult for some, but UNICEF hopes that saving children’s lives might be stronger motivation than grabbing your phone to accept another heart for Cookie Run.

So how long can you do it?

Right now, Bangkok ranks 21st for total time spent participating, with an average time of 1 minute. Do we have the heart to do better?

Or we just be craftier and remember to let it run before going to bed.
