Push-button service: ‘Push for Life’ launched at Central World

Police yesterday launched a new, ultra-simple system for people seeking help in busy locations.

The “Push for Life” button, installed at a ceremony at Central World on Tuesday, is just that: A button people can press that will summon the cops with a response time promised to be five minutes or less.

The “Push for Life” button is wired to an emergency call center and will alert the police for help, according to Deputy National Police Chief Gen. Ruangsak Jarit-ek said. Once pushed, police will rush to the scene within five minutes.

For its roll-out, the system is coming to eight Central Department Store locations in Bangkok, but will be expanded to other locations in the capital and all provinces, according to state media.

Now before you get any funny ideas about playing police “ding-dong ditch,” note the system will include a video camera to record the face of anyone pushing the button. So don’t do it, na.
