Thanks to the Transport Ministry, starting today, the fees that come with answering nature’s call at the bus terminals have been lifted. Hallelujah!
Seventy pay toilets at bus terminals nationwide have stopped charging people in response to the government’s policy to facilitate people in using public toilets. They also seek to improve the public toilet standards, which includes the quality, cleanliness, hygiene, safety and sufficiency of these public toilets.
According to Sanit Promwong, the Transport Department’s director-general, 70 toilets from a total of 117 toilets in bus terminals have had their toilet charges removed.
The remaining 47 toilets will continue charging people since they were rented out by a private sector. However, Sanit said that the department would negotiate with the private operators in order to fulfill the government’s free toilet policy.
Apart from negotiating over the free toilet policy, the department will continue to seek improvement of all toilets so that they’ll meet the official standards required by the Department of Public Health. These toilets must also be accessible by the aged and the handicapped, and be convenient and safe for both, reported Thai PBS.
