Public Health Ministry says you can’t cure cancer with magic lamps

Perhaps tasteful, but definitely not magical

Earlier today, the Public Health Ministry made an announcement via the National News Bureau of Thailand, warning Thai citizens against the so-called “magic lamp” hoax that has duped hoards of terminally ill patients.

The lamp’s manufacturers claim that the device can cure terminal cancer, if left inside a patient’s mosquito net overnight. For each lamp, the manufacturers are charging THB10,000.

Dr. Apichai Mongkol, Public Health Ministry’s Inspector General for Region 7, said that the lamp works in much the same manner as an aromatherapy therapy candle. In case this isn’t self-evident: No, the lamp does not cure cancer.
