PTT filling stations turn off the lights to save power

Six-hundred and sixty-three of the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT)’s 1,363 filling stations throughout the country will be shutting off their lights in an effort to save power while the Yadana natural gas field in Myanmar undergoes repairs.

The Nation reports that PTT’s 700 remaining stations will close one or two hours earlier in a further effort to conserve electricity.

By closing early and curtailing its electricity usage, PTT joins Bangkok’s major retailers and manufacturers in a concerted effort to conserve power and prevent blackouts during the coming week.

The Yadana natural gas field, in Myanmar’s Andaman Sea, provides a great amount of the natural gas that Thailand uses in order to create electricity. Natural gas deliveries from the field will be curtailed between April 5 and 14 while the field undergoes annual repairs.
