Entrepreneur blogger Michael Park has a post on Career Hack about the pros and cons of starting a business in Bangkok. In the pro column Park lists many of the city’s best qualities that should be well-known to Coconuts readers.
PROS
– It’s a major metropolitan center
– Insane nightlife. INSANE NIGHTLIFE
– World class restaurants and dining options
– Many world class hospitals
– All the convenience of living in a city like Singapore
– Superb public transportation and cheap/plentiful taxis
– Good networking opportunities
– Major air and transportation hub
– Fast internet
As for negatives, Park isn’t shy about calling out the city on its shortcomings.
CONS
– Lack of green-space
– Overcrowding
– Tons of traffic
– Air pollution
– Flooding
– The whole city is a big distraction.
We at Coconuts are certainly biased in favor of BKK and we can’t help but be bullish about the city’s potential for startups. While there are problems it’s undeniably, as Park writes, a “f***ing sweet” place to start a business.
