Powerful quake off Myanmar coast rattles Bangkok, prompts evacuations

A sizable earthquake struck just off the southern coast of Myanmar that was felt as far away as Bangkok.

Some metro Bangkok schools and offices were evacuated after the 6.0 magnitude quake, which was centered in the Martaban Gulf midway between Tak province and Myanmar, according to the Earthquake Observation Division. It was followed by several aftershocks ranging from 4.0 magnitude to 4.8 magnitude.

People used the hashtag #earthquake to share images and videos of the quake. At some offices on Silom Road, people were seen exiting buildings.

Around town, people reported feeling the temblor and seeing light fixtures sway.
