Popular whitening product ‘Whitening Dose’ can cause cancer, FDA says

The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning today that “Whitening Dose,” a skin whitening product sold on the internet, is not licensed and can cause skin cancer.

Whitening Dose claims it will make skin appear whiter and more radiant. But what the description doesn’t say is that the overdose of AHA, the active whitening ingredient in the product, can cause your skin to become irritated, burn, and be sensitive to sunlight.

“When your skin is sensitive and easily inflamed for a long period of time, you’re more likely to develop skin cancer. AHA is dangerous and the usage must be controlled by physicians. If applied around the eye area, AHA can also cause blindness,” said FDA director Dr. Jinda Rojanamathin.

Whitening Dose is sold online in bottles as cheap as THB10 per bottle.

Food coloring is added to make the product more appealing for girls, Khaosod reported.
