Popular checkpoint spoiler gone from Facebook after police threats

A popular Facebook page where people shared information about police checkpoints ironically named “We Love Police Stop,” vanished today hours after the Royal Thai Police threatened to prosecute people for such behavior yesterday.

Organizers of the group, which drew hundreds of thousands of followers, announced via Twitter last night they decided to close the page after top national cop Gen. Somyot Pumpanmuang warned that posting the location of police stops is considered a cybercrime and criminal offense because people can use the information to escape arrest.

“Take care of yourself. Drive safely. Don’t drink and drive. We are worried about you,” @Dantruat tweeted last night.

Its Twitter account is still live but only posts links to news stories.

Meanwhile, another lesser-known page “Inform Alcohol Checkpoint” which has 89,000 likes encouraged its followers to keep quiet about the page after We Love Police Stop’s exit.

“Looks like our neighbor is gone. Now we have to watch out for ourselves. Please don’t spread the word about this page for our own benefit,” it wrote this afternoon.

(Sorry guys.)
