Political crisis forces cancellation of Thailand Open golf tournament

Prayad Marksaeng with the winner’s trophy at last year’s Thailand Open

The current political crisis in the country has forced organizers to cancel this year’s Thailand Open golf tournament.

The US$1 million tournament was initially planned to take place in March at Bangkok’s Thana City Golf & Sports Club  but was postponed after the government declared a state of emergency.

With the ongoing political instability, organizers could not guarantee a date for the event this year.

They hope to stage the event early next year.

Prayad Marksaeng became the third Thai to win the title at last year’s tournament, according to the Bangkok Post.
