Photographers don’t forget to carry a gun when shooting at night in Bangkok, as the police say it’s dangerous out there.
Despite a dark and dangerous atmosphere, the Taksin and Phra Phuttha Yodfa bridges offer beautiful views of the Chao Phraya River which are popular with photographers day and night.
They attract photographers with expensive equipment, which in turn apparently is drawing thieves as well.
To spread the word, the police have even produced a video to raise awareness of the issue.

The public service announcement starts with a “re-enactment” in which a group of polite boys shooting their girlfriends are “mugged” by some spiky haired dek waen. Two heartbeats later two brown-uniformed cop heroes charge into the scene. Instead of giving chase to the suspects still sitting in the background, they approach the photographers. We imagine to fine them for loitering.
Everything gets better at the 30 second-mark, when everyone’s favorite foxy police woman, Anchulee “Doctor Air” Thirawongpaisan appears to narrate.
Warning the public away from unsafe public areas is a commendable and practical approach, at least if things like adding more lights or patrols is asking too much.
