In an attempt to curb congestion on Asok Montri Road, police started imposing fines of THB200 on jaywalkers Monday.

A week after pointing the finger of blame at office workers flaunting traffic rules, police handed out tickets yesterday but also targeted vehicles which failed to stop before the pedestrian crosswalk a fine of THB500.

Six points where pedestrians have to use crossings have been selected by traffic police. Meanwhile 13 spots were identified for disallowing right turns by vehicles, the Bangkok Post reported.

Approximately 30 traffic police will assist in directing road traffic every workday from 6am to 8pm. The measures are expected to extend to Sukhumvit and Rama IV roads.
