Police seek 5 arrests for building collapse

Five arrest warrants were issued by a Thanyaburi Court today for people behind the construction of a condominium which collapsed and left at least three dead and 24 injured.

Sub-contractor Diaw Prabjone, 43; Pensri Kitipaisalnont, 48, who sought construction permission; Engineer Saksit Inthong, 43; construction superviser Jira Khanman; and Chanaichon Kerdthes, the managing director of the construction company Plook Plang, could be charged with negligence resulting in the workers’ deaths.

As of this afternoon police believed there are more workers who remain trapped in the building, which could mean more than six victims’ bodies lie under the debris.

Today sniffer dogs were taken to the site to locate them. If there were no signs of life, workers would use heavy machinery to quickly break into the rubble, Bangkok Post reported.

Three other “U Place” condominiums, constructed by Pook Plang Co. Ltd. as part of the same project, are already finished, and residents have reportedly moved into one of the buildings, according to Sanook. There have been no reports whether the completed buildings will be inspected.
