Police have arrested an emergency first responder suspected of raping an unconscious woman who then committed suicide after recovering.
After passing out at a Foodland supermarket in Bangkok, the woman was picked up by rescue foundation worker Tawatchai sae Sim, 32, who drove her to Ramkhamhaeng Hospital, then according to CCTV footage, sped away from the hospital with her still inside.
Tawatchai admits to attempting to rape the woman, police said, but then stopped after she resisted.
Witnesses riding a motorcycle along a canal in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan, just outside of Bangkok, heard her crying for help.
“She called for help. She said she was raped,” Sittichai Konyanee said. Sittichai and his wife offered the woman a ride, but she jumped off the motorcycle after a short distance again. When they followed to check on her condition, they found she’d drowned herself.
Tawatchai has also been accused of stealing her rings, which police said he sold to buy yaba, The Nation reported.
